Comment: Ive had many haircuts and a couple facials here. Haircuts do take a bit longer than a regular salon but Ive only had wonderful results and very sweet stylists. Cant beat the price for a full service haircut. Facials were nice and relaxing as well. I recommend to everyone

The scalp massage she gave during the shampoo portion was also a bonus! The price was also amazing for the quality of service I received. I’ll definitely be returning here for my next haircut.

Comment: Questioning the work ethics and professionalism of this school.I was cancelled 30 mins prior to my appointment TWICE in a row. I booked an appointment in SF location, took the morning off of work for the appt, and was cancelled via text 30 mins prior. I was asked to re-schedule via text messages, and after few messages back and forth inquiring about availability I did not get any response back to confirm my appt.I re-booked my appt for Saturday morning at San Jose location, drove an hour to the appointment, and while I was 10 mins away, I got cancelled again via text message. I did not see the message until I reached the reception. There was no front desk staff available and I ended up talking to Elisa who was an instructor, although its no fault of her, as a representative of the institute at the time, I expected to see some accountability for the students unprofessionalism by their coaches/mentors. I requested a reschedule or compensation for my time and was promised a call back by EOD, but never heard back.I am questioning the kind of professionalism and work ethics this school is teaching its students after this experience. I know I will not be able to go to someone who is associated with this school in the professional world, in the future.

Comment: After paying a fortune at many different hair salons in SF I decided to check out CAI could i get the same results for $28 bucks ? Yes I did.I needed a couple inches taken off the bottom and bulk/volume reduced, lob cut.Before I made the appointment, I knew & was okay with a student cutting my hair and learning errors might be made. (none were made though) I also understood the cut might take more time and needed to plan for that. I didnt go in looking for a $150 haircut for $28 bucks. Although thats what I got. Because SF hair salons is excessively over priced for the skill level many of these crafty artists are at. Not their fault just sf is expensive to survive.How it works: You arrive for your appointment talk to the stylist about what you want, give clear information keep expectations reasonable.Then the student & Instructor review each stage of the haircut together with your input. The student then checks in with the instructor, and the instructor stops by throughout each stage of the cut to give feedback and check the cut.For me the student Marisa met my expectations, asked a lot of questions was attentive, checked in with her teacher. I had the inches taken off, volume reduced, the haircut was even.The studio, students and clientele are all interesting. If you have a simple haircut and are a chill person I recommend this place.

Student kits needs more improvement and more elecetronic devices on it. There were lack of client time to time due to schedule problems . All can be worked on it. Still one of the best schools in bay area so far

Comment: Avoid this place if you want your hair colored correctly. First time I went the student did a decent job. I had a pretty pink/purple gradient in the front, unfortunately the back was an ugly brassy orange brown. Supervisor signed off on it anyway. Went back to get it fixed. Should have walked out the door when I saw it would be the same supervisor “assisting.” Asked them to JUST fix the back part to match the pink up front. Nope. Dumped dye over my whole head. No more pink, no more gradient. All ugly grey purple now. Except for the back which is…wait for it…ugly grey brown. The students both times were fine, but this guy shouldn’t be teaching ANYONE. I liked my hair so much and now I can’t wait until it fades out. So disappointing.

Comment: Edit: a refund isn’t going to make the hair reappear on my head or pay for my therapy bills since this increased my PTSD and I’m disabled. I’m absolutely traumatized! I am sharing my story because this is my true experience !After coming here for a tour, I decided to try a service before considering applying to the educational programs. There was a teacher with glasses, I believe a female but I do not know the teacher’s gender identity. I explained I only wanted an inch cut off and like 5 inches were cut off. The teacher says “I know it’s a shock”. I hope the cosmetology board sees my comments and complaints. I read other reviews and was shocked at how bad of experiences people had here. I blame the instructor, not even the student, ultimately because the teacher should be teaching better. They even affects my work as a model. I decided I will not be supporting this institution with my time, money and energy. I see why they have an accreditation cautionary warning on the VA GI bill website. They traumatized me and like I said it affects my work. If you can’t tell the difference in five and one inch, on my opinion, you should not be a cosmetologist and you definitely should not be teaching future cosmetologists.

I’ve had dozens of services (hair and body care) and benefitted from the talents of many students over the course of 15+ years since they opened. My favorite treatments are: hair - partial and accent foils, scalp treatment, blow-out’s and cuts + body care services - back facials, regular facials.Aveda products are excellent, and everyone here is devoted to stellar beauty care. Comment: I want to support this business as a school that gives students an opportunity to practice and a cheaper service to those who need it or want it… however I regretted going and taking a risk. It’s obviously a risk… and for me it wasn’t worth it.I am a dyed strawberry blond with châtain (light brown) natural hair that is fine. I came here to become a copper redhead and thought I had nothing to worry about. I’ve learned that trusting your hair color to a student is simply not a great idea, even though a student consults an instructor before doing your hair. My roots were dyed deep burgundy red - just like the wine. Honestly, if hair color lifts up to 4 shades, why in the world did they decide to put a different shade on my roots still beats me. I obviously wasn’t happy with my results. The student took 2.5 hours to dye my mid length hair and she started with the roots so by the time my whole head of hair was dyed (I was asked to hold it for 30 minutes when done, too) you can guess what was happening to my roots. An instructor came to the rescue once the color was washed off. the first thing she says to me- well, you know this is a school and these are students, right? Oh Lordy. Yes, I’m aware of that, really not what you want to hear as a person with the hair on fire. Yes, im aware I’m a guinea pig who pays to be one but holy cow, that’s not what you say to someone. I asked her to fix it, she told me to come back for another appointment (I refused) then she told me she can’t make it lighter and she put more color in my hair. As I sat at the hair washing station with more color on my hair, another instructor came to the rescue. He put a color stripping agent on my roots. It lifted the color but as I came home I realised it was patchy. He did rescue the operation as much as he could and I’m thankful -but I realise I have to strip all of this patch work with burgundy roots still there and do another all over color to correct everything. I’ll wait for a couple of weeks to give my hair some rest. The experience at Aveda took 6 hours (I came for my appointment at 10 and left at 4 pm) and costed me $50. As the aftermath I spent another $80 on products to fix this hair experiment which is still to come.My best word of advice to you before you go for a new hair color to trust your hair to a student… think very carefully if you want to take this risk. 🙏

Comment: Ive gone a handful of times throughout the years and generally had a pretty good experience with engaged instructors -- even if the students were not as engaged. Ive also had good luck with instructors understanding how to deal with long curly hair. Today, while the student was very friendly, the instructor was completely unengaged, seemed to know nothing about my hair type, never checked in during the cut, and the student was treating this more as a short-haired mens cut. I left with a frizzy mess and razer burn after his neck clean-up. I felt utterly embarrassed walking out. I felt pretty uncomfortable from the start and should have walked out then.If you were not comfortable with my hair type or felt I got the wrong service you should have not cut my hair at all. I would have chosen to send this feedback first privately, but theres no email contact and I dont ever want to go back after this anyway.

Comment: This review has nothing to do with the hair stylists, which have been great most of the time, but this review has to do with the Salon itself, because they have left me stranded without an appointment three times within the last six months so I’m pretty much done with them. What’s worse is that they tell me of the cancellation two days before my appointment which left me stranded looking around for another Salon. Most hair dressers are great, but the Salon needs to get it together and be more reliable on their appointments 🤷🏻‍♀️

Comment: Had an appointment a little bit ago and just getting around to writing a review. I went in asking for a simple cut and layers, left with my hair EXTREMELY uneven.. I had to fix it myself at home which ultimately ended in a short length(when my hair started at my ribs) that I did not want. After asking the student what their plan was for my hair, the teacher did not check in at all during the cut or when it was done. I unfortunately didnt notice until I got home(and my hair felt gross and greasy from the shampoo/products added to it during the appointment) and showered. Im all for teaching salons but it doesnt really seem like there is any oversight or teaching. Will not be going back, would caution people from going here.

Comment: Today I had a back facial scheduled. It was my first time ever coming here, I didnt know what to expect as it was also my first spa experience of any sort. I walked inside and was promptly greeted. Check in was fast and I was instructed to take the elevator upstairs. As I headed on upstairs, I was greeted by my facialist who was waiting for me outside of the elevator. She leaded me into the spa where she asked me some questions about my skin, and explained the process to me. During the whole experience, she was very comforting and sweet. She was very soft spoken and explained what she was doing before she did it. I had the most wonderful experience with her and definitely will be rebooking again! 10/10 will recommend Zaira for skincare/body!! She escorted me downstairs, where I checked out and payed. $50 as shown online.-The only reason I deducted 1 star is that the website tends to be a little glitchy when youre trying to book, and the app doesnt work at all when trying to book a new appointment.

She did a fantastic job!!!The 15+ students that cut my hair in previous visits all did an excellent job.I appreciate very much that they accommodate my need for shampoo and conditioner that is wheat and gluten-free.Thank you also to the Instructors like Jazz that teach them all the techniques to cut hair, especially short hair so well.

Comment: Worst experience ever … I paid for roaches 🪳 and to be kicked out of class for being tardy 5 minutes. No to mention we couldn’t bring lunches because there was no refrigerator or somewhere safe to put them beside the roach infested lockers. On our lunch breaks our only option was to sit outside on the stairs or stand (this is located in downtown Sf ) not a very sterile environment to be sitting on the ground. That’s just the beginning. The spa itself was pretty basic which was kind of expect since we were learning however, you’d think paying over 10,000 you’d atleast have decent beds to perform services or even able to purchase products for beginners esthetics kit. The teacher was informative yet rude ( she calls it honesty). This school really deterred me from my passion (skin). Do your research sis fr 😒they played me .

Comment: Had some decent experiences here. But one off experience I had i will never return.Wanted a not to complicated haircut the stylist said he wanted to use a razor. I asked him not to as my hair is wavy and it makes my hair extra frizzy. After a long conversation with the stylist and instructor. He used the razor anyway. Took over a year for my hair to recover. Aveda is there way or not at all. Never again

Comment: To anyone who actually cares about their hair and appearance, skip this option. I recently moved to the city and was shopping around for a cheaper alternative to a $400 salon visit. A few Reddit threads made mention of the student services at Cinta Aveda Institute and most reviews were decent enough to give it a try. I want to preface with the overwhelming professionalism of the building, staff, and overall treatment. It was a wonderful atmosphere with heavy student supervision from instructors. However, terrible results. Unless youre someone who is less picky, just looking for a simple trim, or have super dark (and nearly impossible to mess up) hair, this place is certainly not for you.Im a 23 year old blonde female and ultimately want this to serve as a PSA to those in a similar demographic - dont waste your time here. Learn from my mistake and spend the money for real salon results. The girls (and guys) were super kind and understanding, but it doesnt change the fact that my bright beachy blonde hair is now orange and streaky like that mom from Jon & Kate Plus 8. Oh, and it took 6 hours.

Money you give them and in return you will recieve no education for what you are there for. I beg of you dont waste your money. Every student here will tell you the same thing and you will regret ever stepping foot on to their property. All it has is bad juju and needs saging, but even that dont help. If you do choose cinta aveda, i personally wish you luck on your LONG journey.

Ive never actually had any services done here and also never had a facial done but despite all that the student made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. I know people who went in for haircut here and had a great experience but I came here for a full arm waxing and unfortunately left with some burns and skin peeling. I was greeted by a new student and brought into the spy room where two students work on each of my arms. At no point during the waxing session did I meet the instructor or teacher. One of the students took her time, but kept pulling up instead of back. I had to give her suggestions throughout the session. The other student started out well but when the wax cooled, she continued to use thick wax instead of turning of the wax warmer. Thats when the harsh pulls came causing the top layer of my skin to also be waxed off. Instead of realizing she made a mistake she went on to say I was sweating and that caused the wax to stick.... I was not sweating a bit. Anyways, I regret trying to save money and coming here. Ill take my old salon back in a heartbeat and never complain when she misses that one hair thats impossible to remove.

And in particular, today I had a fantastic treatment done by a student who has been asked turning at a high-class salon in Healdsburg. As a result, she’s learned a lot of tips and tricks from the trade, and was even more professional than I’ve had in the past. Furthermore, she did a fantastic job with my hair. Specifically, she did some foil balayage and partial highlights to give me a warmer tone that would make my hair look more natural.

What they have in common is that cut is very slow and you need to be very proactive about how you feel and what you want.The last time of the 4 was bad. But my experience was absolutely horrible: the consultation was perfunctory, and no matter how many times I reinforced that I didnt want my hair shorter than an inch, I was met with its cool, be alright dismissive language. The instructor was absent from a supervisory role, only coming over to use hairspray to glue down the comb-over in the back where the cut went too deep. All this is about average, I guess, for a school haircut experience, but the tipping point into anger-ville was the feedback form consisting of only a few multiple choice questions, half of which had been either crossed out or pre-filled by the student. I wanted the sacrifice of my hair to mean something, but I guess it was time for everyone to go home, so too bad for me.You may go, and you may have a perfectly nice time, but be aware that the depths are pretty low for exactly how bad things can get, and your feedback isnt solicited in any real way

Comment: I went to Aveda after a friend recommended the institute to me for the reasonable prices and I was just going in for a trim/clean-up cut. I didnt have high expectations or anything but I definitely left worrying that my hair was cut uneven in the back. The girl who cut my hair was nice and asked me what I wanted and I was very specific that I just wanted a trim/cleanup on my ends. What got me a little worried to start was that she washed my hair and then styled it... full style with curls... To those who may not understand where I am coming from, I have straight hair naturally, and Ive never had a hair dresser curl my hair before they trim or cut the hair... the hard part is I have no clue is my hair is even from the trim since my hair was curled and will only know once I wash and dry my hair. To add it wasnt very reassuring that she did a good job since she didnt ask her instructor to look at my hair until afterwards. When the instructor asked if I had any questions or comments, I addressed my concern about the possibility of an uneven cut, and she had mentioned that if I notice anything wrong to give them a call since the stylist did miss a few steps.. not sure what that meant but I definitely left feeling really uneasy about my cut.

They offer 3 floors: 1st & 3rd floors have hair services & the 2nd floor is for their spa (facials, waxing, & makeup) services. Ive been coming here for years and have a pretty great experience here most of the time. If you dont like the work they did, they are happy to try to fix it as long as you let them know within the week of the service being done. They use all Aveda products, which are great. The prices are beyond reasonable, especially for San Francisco.

But this time i had a bad experience with my haircut.I asked for a little trim, all same length, just 1 inch trim.When she just started cutting my hair it was ok, the length was just fine. I went on a Saturday and given other Yelpers parking warnings, I parked about a 10-15 minute walk away (at Howard & Hawthorne) and paid the $2/hr meter for a couple hours. I didnt even waste time trying to drive into the heart of the beast, just parked when I saw a spot after exiting the 101. It proved to be a good strategy, traffic was insane near the salon. Since the hair cut only took an hour, I had some time to shop at the nearby Union Square!The haircut cost $24 + tip (the sign says $18-$24 and Im not clear what changes the price, my actual hair cut lasted 9 minutes, I timed it!).The cut was exactly what I wanted. Ive had the same haircut my entire life (except the time when someone accidentally cut it to shoulder length when I was 15 and I cried). So, for me its actually a good thing if my hubby cant notice anything different about my hair. What can I say, I know what I like. That said, I also dont place a lot of dollar value on my hair cuts. Its a really simple style and totally not worth the ~$100 most salons around SF seem to be charging for hair cuts. The only thing I tend not to like about training salons is the the length of time it takes to get the service, but this one was right on track. The shampoo and cut were done in 20 minutes, and then the style took about 30 minutes. She did a really nice job on the style, and gave me some fun volume and big curls that I rarely take the time to do myself.Ill definitely be back and would recommend to others. The receptionist said Saturdays fill up 4-5 weeks in advance, but I got in same day on a cancellation

Comment: When I walked in the ladies at the front were very quick and friendly and once they checked me in they lead me to Salma. She started off with a massage (so relaxing!) then to shampoo and conditioner and as super nice and friendly. When I told her what I wanted (just two inches off and long layers for body) she did what I asked and better! I am soon happy with my hair. She also did a blowout and sprayed it with some hairspray for the SF weather. I am in love with my new hair and I would definitely go back to Salma

Comment: Went in for a body wave on my very long hair two weeks ago and LOVE the results! Joel was very attentive as he guided Nancy through the process and matched the services exactly to my hair type and desired results. He chose the perfect size rollers and helped Nancy time it so that I now have the gentle waves I need for my normally super-straight/ very fine hair.The job took a bit longer than expected but I dont mind taking longer to get the right results!

Comment: Are you kidding? This place is GREAT! All Aveda products and prices are great half of what most spas charge, staff is sweet and trained to do the services. It takes a little long, but you save so much on the service, its worth it for sure! Highly recommend EVERYTHING here.

Comment: I came here with a coupon for a free color treatment and opted to get a haircut as well. The receptionist did an amazing job squeezing me in with late-notice, but had to schedule me with two separate stylists. I didnt request a certain student so had alphas (newest students) for both. The stylist who did my color (Johny) was confident despite his inexperience, super friendly, and kept complimenting the color we settled on. The second stylist who did my cut didnt hide her uncertainty when I showed her my inspiration image. Going into a haircut with that in mind put me at unease for the whole shabang. At one point, she called an educator over to help fix the length. The educator (Rosie) made me feel uncomfortable expressing what I wanted different because she talked over me and implied that it was from my lack of communication. The student was very patient and spent time making it right, so I tried to express gratitude both verbally and monetarily. I was there from 9:15 - 3:35 without a break for my cut & color. I knew it would take longer than a regular salon but damn. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to spend less money in exchange for time. Theyll get the cut right, if youre willing/able to express dissatisfaction.

Comment: I have been coming here for partial highlights for several years. You do take a gamble in getting a student that isnt skilled, but they eventually improve over time and experience while training. Ive had to reschedule another highlights apporintment once, since it didnt turn out the way I wanted. I didnt have to pay for the error and I was happy with the results the second time. I usually go with a beta student so that if she/he is good, then I request that stylist again in another 6 weeks. Sometimes Ill go with a gamma student, since they tend to work faster, but they usually are graduating students and so you cant request them again. Be prepared to stay 4-6 hours for highlights and bring a book and a phone charger.

Comment: Got my haircut here last week for $18. Great deal. Now it took 2 hours for me to get a simple haircut, but I understand that by requesting a haircut here, it helps a cosmetology student earn his or her hours. So its important to be patient and nice with them! Theyre learning! Cutting someones hair for the first couple of times can be nerve racking for some, because we all make a big deal out of hair. You also get a little bit of a head massage. It was really pleasant! The only thing I dont like about this place is that they do put a good amount of product in your hair, and Im not a big fan of product. I have reduced my use of hair products quite a bit, after trying out more natural hair care methods. So it was kind of a bummer, but at the same time, my hair was super tangly and hard to work with, so I kind of get it. Next time, Im going to try to make it easier for them by coming in with less difficult hair, and being more adamant about them not using that much product in my hair. Aside from all of that, its a great deal, and a great way to support budding cosmetologists.

Comment: Dont go here, I wish I did not.I walked in to make an appointment. I told the front desk that I wanted to work with a gamma stylist, the highest level of stylist in training. The person they supposedly were booking me with was a beta, second tier, but she is from a foreign country where she has her cosmotology license in, but that license is not recognized here in California.When I arrived for my appointment today, I looked through the look books and chose several pics that showed how I wanted my naturally dark blonde hair with 6 months of grown out highlights to become natural looking highlighted and lowlighted hair. The stytlist myself and the educator all spoke IN DETAIL about this. The last thing the (first) EDUCATOR said to the stylist was NO CHUNKY HI LITES. Well he didnt supervise her AT ALL. While she was doing the color, she told me she was an engineer in the Ukraine, before she moved here, which struck me as odd being that I was told my stylist has a hair license NOT an engineering license in her home country.Another (second) educator comes over to check in about the cut, there were some communication issues which we ironed out and in the end the cut came out pretty good.....She started blow drying my hair and oh gosh now I can see the color. I now had incredibly CHUNKY highlights, that were PLATINUM blonde in front and dark dark blonde on the sides.Another (third) educator came over, as at this point I am in tears, and she agreed to waive the fees for today and I can make an another appointment to fix it. Why they couldnt fix it then and there, I am not sure. My schedule is tight and no I cant come back tomorrow. She is finishing up the blow dry and I am still visibly upset, so now the fourth educator comes over, and says dont worry, we will fix it I cannot refund you but we will fix it for free. I said thats funny, I was already told I did not have to pay for my services today since I was so unhappy. Fourth educator says maybe a school isnt the right place for you to come to which I replied Maybe the first educator, who is no longer on the floor, should have stayed and supervised my entire process.The stylist finished the blow dry and to be honest, it wasnt even a good blow dry. My naturally wavy hair, was now straight like i asked, but pretty damn frizzy.When I went downstairs to reschedule, it turns out the gammas are only taking appointments from 315 to 415pm I work in fitness which means I always have to be in work by 5pm, during the week and I work on Saturdays, so my only option was to go with a beta stylist. I passed. So yeah I did NOT pay with money but trust me I am paying with S----Y streaky chunky likes its 1999 highlights. And Ill have to pay to have this fixed by a pro.The thing is I have gone to schools before, and there is usually ONE educator or master instructor, who actually stays with the stylist the entire time THAT SAME EDUCATOR checks in periodically. I understand that part of me getting services cheaply, is that they may not get it 100%, I am helping someone gain experience in their learning environment. But the skill-less-ness and the attitude and unprofessionalism here is solely from educators who have no supervisory skills and zero responsibility for the people that come in.If you want chap hair servicesr, there has to be a better deal on lifebooker or groupon or go check out the Paul Mitchell school on Folsom St

Comment: I just got my facials here second time.. Overall, the experience was quite good compare to the price they offered. They used Aveda product for your skin. Please noted that facials will be performed by students. And be on time. They do have 10 mins late policy. Once you are late, trust me they will cancel your appointment.

Comment: After years of SuperCuts and other cheap haircuts, I tried the Aveda school. Its a $120 haircut... for $14. Totally incredible. And the people are really nice.
